Spirits Shut Out Meredith 4-0

Molly Thomas charges ahead

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The host Salem Spirits shut out Meredith College soccer 4-0 in Sunday's first USA South contest of the season. Molly Thomas led the Angels with three shots on goal.

Meredith opened the match a little sluggish, and Salem took advantage scoring quickly in the seventh minute of the match. Two more first half goals left the Avenging Angels fighting to get back into the game.

And Meredith responded with a dozen attempts at the net in the second period, more than double the effort of the first half. Led by Kirstie King and Thomas, the Angels defense protected the backfield better as well, limiting Salem to just five shots at the goal.

The Avenging Angels created five corner opportunities in the second half after playing the first 45 minutes without one.

Jessica Wallace recorded four shots like Thomas, while three Angels, Katie Carter, Hannah Elvington, and Lillian Fox, managed two attempts apiece for Meredith. Goalie Kat Pike notched six saves in the loss.

Four different Salem Spirits scored in today's win with Katie Fretwell earning the game winner on an assist from Hannah Huskey. Hannah Wagner earned the win in goal for Salem recording 10 saves on the day.

The Avenging Angels travel to N.C. Wesleyan Wednesday for a 4 p.m. match-up with the Bishops heading into Fall Break. Join the team Saturday for Senior Day, as the administration recognizes King, Pike, Thomas, and Wallace just prior to the first kick.
