ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Jessica Wallace scored each of the Meredith College goals in a 3-1 victory over N.C. Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon. The Bishops had no answer for Wallace, who tallied seven shots on goal.
The Angels started off strong with an early save from rookie goalie Miranda Lutz, followed by Wallace's first goal in the eighth minute of the match. Ansley Bucknam served up her first career assist for the Avenging Angels on the play.
Both teams continued to work on offense, each recording five shots in the half, but Meredith held a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
Wallace's second goal came unassisted in the 63rd minute of the match, and Wesleyan finally found their way to the net on a penalty kick by Cydney Nichols nearly 15 minutes later.
The Angels wrapped up the match with Wallace's 44th career goal late in regulation to secure their fifth win on the season and first in USA South competition.
Lutz collected seven saves in her fifth appearance and third start in goal for the Angels, and Bishop Alicia Jacobs recorded nine stops in the loss.
