RALEIGH, N.C. — Three Meredith College freshmen scored in Wednesday night's 4-0 victory over the visiting William Peace Pacers. Senior Molly Thomas added a fourth to finish off the Pacers in the Kick Cancer event.
Tonight was all Meredith as the Avenging Angels out shot WPU 15-6 across the 90 minutes of play. Rookie goalie Miranda Lutz managed each of the three Pacer attempts, recording a trio of saves in 90 minutes in goal for Meredith.
Lillian Fox scored first for Meredith with her third collegiate goal in the 15th minute of the match. Katie Carter served up a short pass and Fox dropped the ball in the box from the right wing. Morgan Tingen scored her first goal as an Angel less than three minutes later, floating a shot over the Pacer goalie's fingertips to give MC a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the 73rd minute Thomas scored her first on the season and third as an Angel to put William Peace out of reach. And Hunter Straub curled a corner kick around the post, her first collegiate goal, late in regulation to finish off the match for Meredith's second USA South win this fall.
Meredith travels to Pfeiffer Saturday for a conference pairing with the Falcons. PU defeated the Avenging Angels in overtime earlier in the season in non-conference play. Follow the live action HERE beginning at 2 p.m.
