Soccer Angels Battle in 3-1 Loss to Pride

Lillian Fox serves up a pass

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer squad put up a strong battle in a 3-1 loss to the undefeated Greensboro Pride in tonight's final home match of the regular season. Lillian Fox closed out an attempt from Molly Thomas, as the ball fell loose from the goalie.

The Avenging Angels back line in Kirstie King and Katie Quinn did well to protect the box against a persistent attack from the visitors. GC recorded 20 shots across 90 minutes of play, and Kat Pike deflected seven attempts that made it through King and Quinn, along with help from Madison Gladwell and Annah Bishop on the wings.

Greensboro's Anna Rae Porcelli posted seven opportunities at the net, and Meredith's defense stopped six of them. Her seventh made it to the net in the 52nd minute of the match to the upper right corner of the box, as the Pride closed out for the win.

Midway through the first period Alexis Chase entered the match to land her only shot on goal in the net with help from teammate Sydney Moss. Pride forward Mercedes Bauza scored the second goal for Greensboro late in the second half to give the visitors an edge heading into the break.

Goalie Kelsey Emrich recorded her 11th win this season with three saves for the Pride.

The Avenging Angels have one more regular season match this season and travel Saturday to Methodist for a 6 p.m. kick off in Fayetteville.
