Lutz Earns USA South Nod

Miranda Lutz earns USA South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College goalie Miranda Lutz earned the USA South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week nod as announced Monday from the league office. This marks the freshman's first conference honor.

Lutz stopped all 18 shots she faced in a scoreless draw with USA South rival Methodist in her only appearance last week for the Avenging Angels. Meredith was outshot 25-8 in the game but earned the tie thanks to Lutz's efforts in goal.

The soccer Angels earned the USA South Tournament's East Division fifth seed and will travel to Danville, Va., Wednesday evening to face off with fourth-seed Averett. The first kick is slated for 6 p.m. on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium. Wednesday's winner will advance to Saturday's quarterfinal match versus the West's top-seeded Maryville Scots, undefeated in league play.

Per conference policy, admission will be charged at all tournament events ($6 general, $3 student/senior/child).
