Soccer Falls 5-1 to Shenandoah

Soccer Angels prepare for match

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Day two of the Meredith College Soccer Classis resulted in a 5-1 loss for the Avenging Angels. The Shenandoah Hornets scored four before Lillian Fox scored Meredith's only goal after a foul inside the box.

SU's Emily Yergin led an aggressive Hornets squad that opened the match with a pair of quick goals from Maiya Pencile and Alison Spaziani. After an assist for Pencile in the opening minutes of the first half, Yergin netted two more to tie the all-time goals record at Shenandoah.

Fox punted her score into the right corner of the box in the 56th minute of the match to put the Avenging Angels on the board. Kristen Fisher slipped her penalty kick past Miranda Lutz 10 minutes later to extend the Hornets lead to four. One final point from Kaitlyn Carter finished off Meredith for good.

Southern Virginia edged N.C. Wesleyan 2-1 in the tournament finisher to close out the weekend.

The Avenging Angels travel to Randolph-Macon Wednesday afternoon before returning to the Meredith turf next Saturday playing host to Eastern Mennonite.
