ASHLAND, Va. -- The host Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets handled the Meredith College soccer team 3-0 Wednesday just ahead of Hurricane Dorian's approach to North Carolina. RMC out shot the Avenging Angels 28-5 to control the tempo, leaving goalie Miranda Lutz with nine saves in goal for Meredith.
Meredith held the Jackets to just one goal early in the first period in 10 attempts. Lutz stopped one of the first three before Gabby Nelson netted her team's first unassisted five minutes into the match. An anxious Angels offense was called for 10 offside violations and never managed to record a shot through 45 minutes of play.
The Yellow Jackets pummeled Meredith's defense throughout the early minutes of the second half, recording 10 in the first 15 minutes of action. RMC's Olivia Adams delivered a pair of assists during that time before the hosts pulled back the attack.
Lillian Fox launched a pair of attempts early in the period for the Avenging Angels with rookie McKenzie Jackson finding her way towards the goal in the final seconds. But RMC keeper Edye Carr stopped the attempt to hold onto her shutout.
MCSC hosts the Eastern Mennonite Royals Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. non-conference pairing.
