Tennis Angels Fall to Nationally Ranked UMW Eagles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Meredith College tennis team continued its tough non-conference schedule with a 9-0 loss to the University of Mary Washington Eagles, who ranked 15th nationally in November's final fall NCAA Division III poll.

Laura Anne Hatcher scored two games off of UMW's Taylor Diffley at no. 2 singles, and rookie Gillian Emerson scored three points in her two sets at no. 3. At no. 5 and no. 6 singles, respectively, Sandra Taranhike and Kassidy Pitchford managed a point apiece for the Avenging Angels.

Meredith opens a three-match home series next Tuesday afternoon with the Shaw Bears. Two weeks later, Barton and Chowan travel to campus for midweek games. All three programs compete in the NCAA Division II and present a tough challenge for the Angels.
