LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The East third-seed Meredith College tennis team ended their run early in the USA South Conference Tournament with a 7-2 loss to West second-seed Huntingdon Friday. Gillian Emerson and Alexandra Cheney earned the points for the Avenging Angels.
The Hawks captured each of the doubles courts for an early 3-0 advantage. Emerson won her third singles match versus conference opponents this season with a 6-0, 6-3 over Huntingdon's Kacy Howard. With time running long and the match win already claimed by the Hawks, courts four, five, and six moved to eight-game pro sets. Cheney finished off Kacey Stephens 8-5 for her seventh win versus USA South competition this spring.
Jacqueline Benton and Elizabeth Johnson at no. 1 and partners Emerson and Emily Wilkinson on court two each collected three points in doubles play. Cheney and Logan King earned just one point at no. 3, and King fared the same in her singles match on court five with an 8-1 loss to Caroline McBroom.
