Angels Cruise to 7-2 USA South Victory Over Pride

Logan King on the serve

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College Avenging Angels tennis squad captured a 7-2 victory over the visiting Greensboro Pride in Thursday's USA South action.

Meredith's no. 2 and no. 3 doubles pairs gave the Angels a 2-1 lead early in the match. Alexandra Cheney and Sarah Porter swept the Pride 8-0, and Aly Henneberry and Brittney Brown gave up just one game for a second point heading into singles. Natalie Collins and Logan King battled on court one but struggled to gain momentum.

Cheney and King handled courts four and five without issue, and Porter finished off Raven Green 6-2, 6-0 for a 5-1 lead. Anna Rae Porcelli claimed the first set over Collins, 6-0, on court one, but Collins fought back to win three games in the second.

Brown put away Matti Moore at no. 3 before Henneberry fought through her 6-1, 6-1 battle on court two to finish off the Pride.

Meredith travels to Pfeiffer University Saturday for a 1 p.m. match Saturday before returning to their home court Monday to face off with the William Peace Pacers.
