RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College recorded an 8-1 victory over the visiting Salem Spirits in Tuesday's USA South women's tennis pairing. Head Coach Meredith Muempfer and her squad honored Emily Wilkinson for her four-year commitment to the program.
The Avenging Angels shut out Salem 8-0 with Aly Henneberry and Brittney Brown on court one to start doubles play. Wilkinson and Alexandra Cheney finished off court three 8-3, and Natalie Collins and Logan King set the win in motion with an 8-5 victory at no. 2.
Singles courts six, five, and four made quick work of their opponents to secure the win, and Brown followed on three dropping just one game in each set in her victory. Collins battled a tough Makenna Mason on court one in the Angels' only loss on the day, responding with a close 6-4 second set.
Henneberry fought back after a long 5-7 loss in set one to even the her match versus Grace Wilson on court two, 6-3. She outlasted Wilson 10-4 in the third to claim her fourth career singles win and third in conference action.
Meredith will host Methodist Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m. The opening match will count as a USA South Conference game.
