RALEIGH, N.C. -- Three Meredith College tennis players were named in the USA South end-of-season honors as announced Thursday from the conference office. Sophomore Brittney Brown and rookie Aly Henneberry earned All-East second team selections, and Sarah Porter was named to the Women's Tennis All-Sportsmanship team.
Brown posted a 6-8 overall singles record this season, including four USA South wins. Most of Brown's time was spent on court three with a pair of matches each on courts two and four. She played the first half of the spring season on court two in doubles play before taking over the number one spot with Henneberry. The pair garnered a record of 7-2 overall with four wins at the top spot.
Henneberry finished her first season with the Avenging Angels 5-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play, mostly on singles court two. She collected three USA South wins on doubles court two with Brown before the pair moved up to court one for the remainder of the season.
A Meredith junior Porter joined the team in January and played in eight singles and six doubles matches this spring. She posted a 2-1 league record in singles and doubles play.
The Avenging Angels enter tomorrow's USA South Conference Tournament as the East Division fourth-seed and face off with the West Division's top-seed Piedmont Lions. The match is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. on the LaGrange College courts.
