Indoor Track Angels Perform as Team for First Time

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --  Led by freshman Essence Thomas, who represented Meredith as an individual competitor in December, the Meredith College indoor track team traveled to Winston-Salem Saturday for the Wake Forest Invitational to perform as a team for the first time in school history. The Avenging Angels added a track & field program last year but only competed during the outdoor season.

Thomas opened the scoring for the Angels in the 400m sprint. She finished in a time of 1:05.89, less than three seconds off the all-time outdoor mark for Meredith. She capped off the afternoon in the 200m sprint with a second-best all-time performance in the event.

Four Avenging Angels lined up for the 800m race. Senior Kiara Glover finished first for the Angels with a time of 2:45.81. Breanna Hollar, who ran this event last spring with Glover during Meredith's first outdoor season, followed in just under three minutes.

Former soccer Avenging Angel and new to Meredith track this year, Alexis Healey followed Hollar. And Katelyn Steadman, new to this event, rounded out the team's performance.

Meredith travels to Christopher Newport in two weeks for the Vince Brown Invitational February 4.
