The Meredith College track & field Angels closed out the season with a strong team performance at Mary Washington's Eagle Invitational Saturday. Megan Evans crushed her previous best in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:18.12 to win the event and set a new all-time program record.
Thursday evening's Athletic Awards Night, the second in its new format, celebrated much success and dedication from student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Senior softball infielder Julia Allsbrook, the night's emcee, was recognized with the program-wide Dean Burris Student-Athlete Award, and senior lacrosse attack Carlee Joseph collected her second consecutive Athlete of the Year honor.
The runners of Meredith College track & field crushed the 5,000 meter race at this weekend's Johnson C. Smith University Invitational. Macy Brinson set a new college record with a time of 18:31.71, while Karen Perez and Emma Travis set PRs as the college's third and fourth best all-time in the event.
The Meredith College student-athlete collected $2641 througout the spring semester for donation to the American Cancer Society as part of the USA South's spring service initiative Pennies for a Purpose. Led by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on each member campus, the conference collected a combined record-setting $20,204.93 to be donated to various organizations.

Leslie Payne, head coach of the Meredith College cross country and track & field teams, received the Judy Sweet Award at the 43rd NCAA Women Coaches Academy hosted last week by the Alliance of Women Coaches in Englewood, Colorado.
Efforts from the Meredith College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will provide the Raleigh Rescue Mission with more than 1500 items of non-perishable food this holiday season. The Avenging Angels collected the items as part of the USA South SAAC's service initiative Cans Across the Conference, a competition among member schools to effect change in communities across the league's six-state footprint.
Meredith College athletics mourns the loss of longtime softball coach, Dr. Jack "Doc" Huber. A beloved psychology professor, he retired in 2011 after more than 30 years of service to Meredith College. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in Jones Chapel.
The Meredith College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) introduced a new slate of officers Wednesday. Senior lacrosse forward Carlee Joseph will lead the group as organization president. Senior volleyball setter Hannah Blaylock will serve as vice-president, and her teammate Haley Reeg, a junior middle blocker, will serve as secretary of the group.

Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers recently announced the promotion of Rebecca Edwards to interim head athletic trainer. A two-year assistant with the Avenging Angels sports medicine staff, Edwards succeeded Tammy Holleman, who left the college to pursue other opportunities.
The USA South Athletic Conference welcomed three new members this summer in Berea College, Brevard College, and Pfeiffer University. The expanded footprint resulted in an adjusted divisional format as announced from the conference office early this week.
