Angels Record Season Best Performances in Finn Pincus Indoor Meet

ROANOKE, N.C. -- The Meredith College track & field Avenging Angels returned to action Friday and Saturday at Roanoke's Finn Pincus Invitational.

Rachel Hill, Allie Bucknam, Megan Evans, and Emma Travis kicked off the event Friday night with a sixth-place finish in the 4,000 meter distance medley relay (DMR).

Demonica Stanley handled the field events Saturday with a pair of season-best performances in the shot put and long jump. She lengthened her stroke by 0.41m in the shot, and upped her mark in the jump by 0.17m.

Sprinter Essence Thomas returned to the track for a standout 60m dash. Her time of 8.40 for a 19th overall finish qualified her for the semifinals where she finished in 18th with a time of 8.384.

Hill ran the 200m and 600m, and placed 13th in the latter with a team-best and new school record time of 1:57.13. Rookies Mitxi Ortiz and Madeline Allred lined up for the 600m as well with a pair of PRs. Megan Evans and Meredith Wyatt raced the 800m run, and Evans also competed in the 1000m run, finishing 11th with a time of 3:37.34. Wyatt's 800m time of 2:58.11 was her best of the season thus far.

Macy Brinson competed in the 3,000 meter run for the second time this season and bested her first mark by 19.02 seconds.

The Avenging Angels head to Newport News, Va., next weekend for Christopher Newport's Vince Brown Invite February 3. Live results will be available during the indoor meet.
