Track Angels Complete Indoor Season at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Meredith College track & field team completed the 2018-2019 indoor season Sunday at the Christopher Newport's Vince Brown Invitational.

Sprinter Essence Thomas qualified for the semifinals for the second time this season in the 60m dash and set a new season record with a time of 8.32 seconds. Teammate Megan Evans won her heat and set a new personal record with a time of 6:03.74.

Led by Rachel Hill with a season-best performance of 2:39.41, the 800 meter crew finished strong. Rookie Mitxi Ortiz, who ran the event for the first time in her collegiate career, and Meredith Wyatt both finished in under three minutes. Hill also bested last week's performance in the 200 meter dash, finishing under 30 seconds.

Macy Brinson and Emma Travis both improved their season best in the 3000 meter run. Brinson posted a time of 11:44.20, and Travis followed in 12:13.95.

Demonica Stanley posted a 14th-place finish in the long jump with 4.53 meters, and tossed the shot put 9.22 meters.

The team will take a week off from team practices and cheer on their basketball teammates before beginning preparations for the outdoor season. Tune in March 2 for results of Berry's Victor Ice Breaker Duals event to kick off the 2019 season.
