MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- Meredith College opened the 2019 outdoor track & field season Saturday in Berry College's IceBreaker Duals.
With a full slate of field athletes, the Avenging Angels set a strong foundation for the rest of the season. Trinity Packer set a new personal record with a 9.29 meter shot put toss, and Kimberly Schuh threw the javelin 28.73 meters for a new personal best. Both now sit among the top-five throwers all-time at Meredith.
Demonica Stanley set a pair of season records with a 9.95 meter shot put throw and a 4.64 meter long jump.
Essence Thomas posted her first 100 meter dash time of the season with a time of 13.19 second, and she leads the Angels this season with her first 200 meter finish in a time of 27.02 seconds. Rachel Hill dropped just over a second off her 200 meter time with a pace of 29.63 seconds, and Allie Bucknam ran her first 200 meter sprint with a time of 30.79 seconds and set a season best 400 meter pace with a time of 1:08.36.
Five Avenging Angels raced the 800 meter run with Bucknam leading the pack with a seaosn best time of 2:33.36. Mitxi Ortiz improved her pace by more than four minutes, and Madeline Allred and Isabelle Pasley stepped up to the 800 meter line for the first time this season.
Senior Megan Evans opened her outdoor season with a 1500 meter finish in 5:36.35.
The Avenging Angels kickoff their spring recess with a two-day event in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at the Coastal Carolina Invite.
