Track Wraps Up Spring Break at UMW Opener

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Meredith College track & field team stepped into two new events Saturday at the University of Mary Washington Opener.  

Rachel Hill finished second in a time of 13:40.82 as Meredith's first-ever competitor in the 3000m steeple chase. Meredith also lined up for the 4 x 100m relay for the first time in program history and placed third with Kimberly Schuh, Demonica Stanley, Essence Thomas, and Allie Bucknam.

Thomas advanced to the 100 meter finals and placed fifth with a time of 13.23, and Bucknam posted a new career-high in the 400m dash, running alongside Thomas.

In the team's first 5000m run this season, Megan Evans posted a new career-best time of 21:49.08 as Meredith's third finisher today. Macy Brinson and Emma Travis also competed.

Throwers Demonica Stanley and Kimberly Schuh picked up the discus for the first time this season and placed 11th and 12th in the event. Both also tossed the shot put, along with Trinity Packer.

The Avenging Angels will compete next Saturday, March 30, at the Trojan Challenge on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.
