Ashley Staples joined the Meredith College athletics staff in August 2018 as the assistant coach for track and field. She will focus her attention on sprinters and jumpers, while offering full team support.
Staples competed with the Division I UNC-Chapel Heel Tar Heels track & field team and used her experience and sport knowledge to build a coaching career.
A certified Level I Coach with the USATF and a certified sprint, hurdles, and relay coach with the USTFCCCA, Staples began her career with Raleigh's Hurdles First Track Club in May 2010. She assisted as a volunteer with the Duke University track team for two seasons and helped the team reach program-best performances in the 4x400 relay and 4x100 relay at the 2013 ACC Outdoor Championship. The 4x400 team went on to the NCAA Regionals to record another university-best performance.
Staples returned to her alma mater in 2015 to volunteer with the men's team and coached several ACC champion relay teams, a pair of All-ACC hurdlers, and an All-American. Her most recent coaching experience paired her with the Raleigh Rockets youth track program, introducing children ages 7-12 to the sport of track and field in sprint, distance, and field events.
Staples earned a Bachelor of Science in clinical laboratory science from UNC-Chapel Hill.
