VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Meredith College volleyball team split in today's final action of the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational.
VWC held on for a three-set sweep over the Avenging Angels with set scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.
Meredith capped off the weekend tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Randolph WildCats. Randolph captured the first set 25-21, but the Avenging Angels recovered quickly to claim the next three for the win in 25-19, 25-22, 25-21.
The Angels travel next to Washington & Lee for a two-day tournament in Lexington, Virginia. Meredith opens Friday, Sept. 6 with Southern Virginia at 5 p.m. followed by the host Generals.
Saturday's action brings Otterbein, selected as #14 in the Division III top-25 preseason poll, and Christopher Newport, tagged in a tie for fifth in the national poll. The Captains transitioned to the Capital Athletic Conference this year.
