MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Meredith College volleyball team earned a pair of conference wins Saturday and hold a share of the lead in North division standings with Averett. The Avenging Angels opened the day with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) win over the Huntingdon Hawks and capped off the day with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-19) sweep over LaGrange.
Karlie Long led Meredith with 24 kills on the day, adding 25 digs. Molly Markley tallied 17 kills overall, and Katelyn Rall notched 16 from the rightside. Libero Emery McGee took control of the back row and managed 36 digs on the day, and Anna Hayes dished out 37 assists and five kills to lead Meredith to a 9-1 record in the USA South.
After taking a 12-7 lead in the first match of the day, the Avenging Angels were forced to fend off a late surge from the Hawks to claim a three-point victory.
Meredith out hit Huntingdon .321 to .121 in set two to cruise past the Hawks and closed out the 3-0 sweep on five consecutive points in the third set.
The Avenging Angels faced LaGrange next and handled the Panthers in three sets. Long led the offense for Meredith with a game-high 16 kills, and McGee led all with 21 digs. Hayes and Clarke Glendenning managed the attack with 17 assists apiece.
Meredith hosts the Averett Cougars Wednesday, October 16, in a Dig Pink cancer awareness event. AU handed the Avenging Angels their only conference loss thus far this fall with a 3-0 win last month.
