Volleyball Returns Home with Pair of Losses

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Meredith College volleyball squad returned to Raleigh after a tough day versus a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents. Washington and Less swept the Angels 3-0 (29-25, 13-25, 12-25), and the host Bridgewater Eagles held on for a 3-2 (23-25, 27-25, 25-22, 19-25, 7-15) victory to end MCVB's run.

The Generals' defense held Meredith to just 18 kills to dominate the Angel's first loss of the season. Caroline Corey led MCVB with just six kills, and Elizabeth Pattison and Alex Hafliger added four apiece.

Hitting .333 on the match, W&L found their way around Meredith's block to land 45 kills on the day. Keegan Lynch led the Meredith defense with six digs, and Hannah Blaylock, Jessica Goodwin, and Corey added four each.

In their second match, Meredith recovered from a set-one loss to the Eagles to take a 2-1 match lead. But Bridgewater turned up the heat to force a deciding set and capped off the contest holding the Angels to just five kills for the win.

Karlie Long and Hafliger led MCVB with 11 kills apiece, and Corey notched 10. Blaylock dished out 35 assists, adding 14 digs, and Lynch led Meredith with 15 digs. The Angels dominated the block with 17 compared to just eight from BC, but Eagle Abby Mills proved to much for Meredith to record an impressive 28 kills in the win.

MCVB travels to Alabama next weekend to open the conference schedule with a USA South Play Day with Agnes Scott at Huntingdon. Meredith opens with the Scotties at 3 p.m. (EST) followed by the Hawks at 5.
