RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College junior outside hitter Caroline Corey was named the USA South Volleyball Player of the Week as announced Monday afternoon from the conference office. Corey led the Avenging Angels to a 3-1 record last week, all versus non-league opponents, averaging 3.80 kills with a .295 hitting percentage and 2.00 digs per set.
With 13 kills and four service aces, Corey led MCVB to a 3-1 victory over the Roanoke Maroons in the home opener. She finished off Brevard with three consecutive service aces to go along with 15 kills, 14 digs in her third double-double on the season and notched 10 kills in a 3-0 sweep over Emory & Henry.
The Angels only loss came in a 3-2 comeback effort versus Guilford College to finish off the Brevard Invitational. Down 2-0, MCVB put away the next two sets to tie the match, but the Quakers would find a way to finish off for the win. Corey posted another double-double performance with 19 kills, 10 digs in the loss.
Meredith's originally scheduled match at Roanoke Friday, Sept. 14 has been postponed due to the expected path of hurricane Florence. Stay tuned for updates.
