RALEIGH, N.C. -- Lone volleyball senior Haley Reeg and the Meredith College Avenging Angels scored a 3-0 victory over N.C. Wesleyan College in Wednesday's Senior Night event. Reeg posted a top hitting percentage of .333 with six kills and one block on the night.
The first set kicked off with six quick points for the Angels as Meredith's Cathy Delano recorded three service aces. MCVB puhed the lead to as many as 10 on a kill from Elisabeth Smith at 18-10 and would finish off the frame on back-to-back blasts from Delano and Caroline Corey for a 1-0 lead.
The Bishops battled a little closer in the second set until Meredith pulled away on a 5-1 midway through the frame. Corey landed a pair of kills to score MCVB's 18th and 19th point and added consecutive service winners en route to an eight-point lead at 22-14. Wesleyan responded scoring five of the next seven points, but the Avenging Angels held on for a two-set advantage.
N.C. Wesleyan held an early lead in set three until Meredith scored five straight to regain control 10-8. MCVB continued to press and finished off the win in three.
Corey posted a the only double-double on the night with 11 kills, 10 digs, and four service aces. Delano finished with seven kills, three aces, and Ally Copenhaver matched Reeg with six kills on the outside. Setters Lauren Grodi and Avery Bowman combined for 34 assists on the night.
The Avenging Angels travel to Methodist Saturday for a USA South play day with Mary Baldwin and wrap up the regular season on the road next week at Salem and William Peace.
