RALEIGH, N.C. -- Lauren Phillips led the Meredith College volleyball team to a 3-1 opening weekend, including a career high 38 digs in a 3-1 victory over Lynchburg to earn the USA South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. This tally ties the second-best all-time record at Meredith and marks Phillips' first weekly nod from the conference.
In the Route 42 Classic hosted last weekend by Eastern Mennonite and Bridgewater, the Avenging Angels downed notched a clean sweep Friday with wins over Catholic and the EMU Royals. The win over the LC Hornets opened Saturday's play, followed by a 3-0 loss to the Bridgewater Eagles.
Phillips averaged 6.19 digs on 99 total digs in 16 sets played to lead the USA South Conference. She landed four service aces and averaged 1.06 assists on the week.
MCVB travels to Washington & Lee this coming weekend for a three-match event beginning with Southern Virginia Friday afternoon.
