Volleyball Angels Finish 1-2 at Washington & Lee Invite

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Meredith College volleyball Angels wrapped up a 1-2 weekend at the Washington & Lee Invite. MCVB won a 3-2  2 (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 28-30, 15-12) match over Southern Va. Friday evening before falling to the hosts Generals and Gettysburg in five sets apiece Saturday.

Caroline Corey was named to the All-Tournament efforts as the leading offensive threat for the Avenging Angels. Corey posted 3.40 kills per set with 51 total kills on the weekend with 38 digs and three blocks.

In a 3-2 (25-21, 25-18, 12-25, 21-25, 12-15) loss to Washington & Lee, Lauren Phillips led all with 27 digs. Corey notched 13 along with 11 kills, and Lauren Grodi dished out a team high 27 assists. Bailey Lucas posted 18 assists, and Ally Copenhaver led MCVB with a dozen kills.

The Gettysburg Bullets edged Meredith 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 14-25, 7-15) with Phillips once again leading the defensive efforts for the match with 23 digs. Emily Skoglund picked up 12 digs, and Grodi posted 11 to go along with 23 assists. Corey finished with a match-high 18 kills.

The Avenging Angels travel to the Marymount Saints next weekend for one final non-conference tournament beginning with Emory & Henry Friday night.
