Cross Country Races Strong in USA South Championship Meet

Macy Brinson leads the Angels

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Meredith College harriers fought a strong championship race in Friday's USA South Championship meet at Maryville College. Senior Macy Brinson posted a 16th-place finish and collected her third All-Conference honor as a member of this year's third team.

Berea College earned the championship title with 26 points, and the Covenant Scots tallied 47 points to finish second. Piedmont recorded 97 points for third, and Methodist placed fourth.

Brinson paced the Avenging Angels to a fifth-place overall finish with a 6,000 meter time of 25:30.0.

Caroline Diorio, Allie Bucknam, and Megan Evans followed to finish among the top-35 runners to score for the Avenging Angels. Emma Travis recorded a personal record time of 27:49.4 to place fifth for Meredith and close out the scoring.

Senior Ana Lucia Rodriguez-Salazar recorded a top-50 finish among the 114 runners. Rachel Hill set her fastest time this season with a time of 29:13.7, and Meredith Wyatt set another sub-30 minute pace in her final USA South competition. Freshman Mitxi Ortiz followed next, and rookie Isabelle Pasley set a new 6K personal record with a time of 31:27.3.

The Angels enter a two-week recovery and training schedule to prepare for the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Meet, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, at Berry College.
